Echoes of Fate

Chapter 13 Echoes of Fate

The war is over.
Eirik has won.
The survivors have left the battlefield.
The kingdom is in ruins, but the shadow of war still hangs in the air.
Eirik walks alone in the remains of what was once his home.
Blood still stains the earth.
The wind carries ash and whispers.
He looks at the Sword of Kings… but feels its weight like never before.
The Shield of Souls still echoes with the voices of the fallen. It trembles in his hands, heavier than before.

-Something is not right.

He feels a presence, as if someone is watching him.
He looks at his reflection in a pool of water and… for a moment, he sees Alrik’s eyes in his own face.
He turns quickly… but no one is there, his shield trembling again.
Eirik feels it now: a presence that shouldn’t be there.
– The gods still watch.
– The relics still breathe.
– The war is over… but history is not.
– Last sentence of the chapter:

“The gods do not choose kings. They only write down names… and let time decide.”
